about

The Bumble Years is a triumph in alternative/jazz/prog/indie/funk/metal/rock/noise/lofi/psychedelic music. And while those are a variety of labels, The Bumble Years keeps you locked in the entire 60 minute* runtime. The album is A Kid Called Purple's most consistent and polished record yet, while maintaining the classic grit, grime and distortion you're used to hearing on past records. Overall, this record leaves you with excitement for whats coming next from AKCP. A timeless classic**: The Bumble Years.

*This record infinitely loops.
**Not actually a 'classic' but definitely his best record yet.

"The Bumble Years is a coming of age album. It was written about the defining years of my life up until this point. All the lows, all the highs, everything.

This record started out as a B-sides record with material that went unused from my first four records, as well as a few new songs. The album was nearly done in November of 2020 and was set to release December 21st 2020, however after a freak hard drive accident (idk it just died lol) everything was erased. Along with losing the record forever, I also lost the entirety of the Melancholia and Birdhouse masters. I almost considered throwing in the towel, just giving up entirely on music and doing something else with my life, because how do you come back from losing almost everything?

Well, it didn't take long (2 weeks to be exact) for me to start recording again. At first I decided to try and redo the album; specifically the songs I had written for the album, but after trying to recreate things I couldn't hear anymore, I decided to completely change how they sounded and write a new record entirely. The only songs that were kept from the original record were Winter, Everything All The Time, and The Bumble Years. Yet, they sound nothing like their original songs.

In January, I started working on what would become the current version of the record that you hear today. And over time as I wrote the rest of the album, I found that I had written it about the 'best years' of my life, as well as what I was missing out on due to being quarantined for 15 months. It felt like everyone around me was growing up, and I was still this punk teenager who had just started high school and already hated every second of it. The record was really dark for a while. However, when I left quarantine in June of this year, I was able to capture the better moments of my life, and really express what 'The Bumble Years' were, and what they meant to me.

I poured every ounce of my being into this record for 9 months straight. Not a day went by where I wasn't working on this album. I know not everybody will understand or like this record, but I hope that at the very least you will feel the amount of love I put into it. Never in my life have I felt this proud of something I've made. I sincerely hope you all enjoy this album. ♥" - Simon
