I made this album during a time in my life when I didn't feel like I knew who I was. This record represents recovery, self acceptance, and overcoming trauma. Every song on this album is about an aspect/event of my life, though at times shrouded in metaphors and vagueness, and it's assuredly my most personal record to date.

A Kid Called Purple is a name from a dark and scary time in my life where I experienced the lowest lows. I was anxious, depressed, scared, and angry at what was happening around me. I've resented this name for years, however I feel that now I've come to terms with it. I might change it at some point, but at least now there's an album that best represents what that name means to me.

The writing process for this album was special because I knew going into it I wanted to perform each part in 1 take with no cuts, and I wanted to try to limit myself to only guitar, drums, bass, and vocals. I also wanted to write better guitar parts because they were going to be so important on this album, so I tuned my guitar to open D and basically relearned all my favorite chords and added some new ones to my repertoire. I'm really happy with how raw and natural everything sounds on this album, and I think it really paid off.

This album to me feels like those good long hugs you get sometimes when you really needed a hug, but didn't wanna bother anyone. I hope it brings you peace, and I hope it resonates with you.
